Lately, I have been noticing that many girl groups have been using retro-inspired songs, outfits, MV, and dance moves for their album. Most of the time, using this concept helped girl groups win on music shows. I honestly love this concept because it’s usually a catchy song! Some people may think the retro concept is being over-used, but I totally love the idea of it. Even if they had the same concept they definitely had different styles and feelings. When the groups bring back the styles of the past, it sometimes remind some of the older people of their youth. Check out some the songs that have used this concept:
- Nine Muses - “Figaro”
The girl’s are back with seven members! Their new MV teaser shows a bit of a retro club feeling similar to “Roly Poly”. They are going for a retro New York concept from the 70’s and 80’s.
- SNSD - “Hoot”
On SNSD’s latest comeback, the girls were dressed up as retro spies and the song became a huge hit. SNSD had more of a western retro concept.
- Dal Shabet - “Bling Bling”
For their comeback, the girls transformed and joined the retro trend! Dal Shabet’s just released the MV for this song and its filled with a whole bunch of flashy lights. The song is retro-techno inspired and repeats the word “disco” a lot.
- T-ara - “Roly Poly”
These girls went all out on this concept and were spot on! They used 70’s and 80’s dance moves for their choreo, and in the MV the girls are dancing in a disco club with a huge disco ball wearing colorful shirts and disco pants. I’m also loving Jiyeon’s hair!~
Most of Secret’s songs are retro like “Shy Boy” and “Madanna“. Secret also had a fresh Korean retro concept with “Oh! Honey“.
- Wonder Girls
The Wonder Girls are known for their retro concepts since debut. I’m wondering if their comeback this year will be retro-inspired!
Which group do you think pulled off the retro concept the best? Also, what do you think of this concept?
