Over the summer, I did a Korean Drama marathon or checklist which built up as I discovered more dramas that were recommended. I found it really interesting though cause every time I started a new drama, it just so happened that the drama I just started had an actor or actress in common from the last! Anyway, what I want to share with you is my thoughts on what I watched whether new or old and how much I like it. You’ll probably have seen some of these dramas since they’re more well known. I’ll write them in their own blogs. Hope you enjoy my review and thoughts of the dramas! [SPOILER ALERT]
Boys Over Flowers:
I started with the one of the best dramas to kick start my summer of adventure! This drama is about an average girl named Geum Jan Di (Ku Hye Sun) who gets into a prestigious high school for saving a student’s life because he was being bullied. In the course of starting to go to the school, she meets F4, the four most richest and spoiled boys there. When something happens to the boys, there is a consequence so she knows to avoid them but one day when her friend drops her ice cream on the leader’s shoes, she decides to take the consequence which further on changed everything.
First off, wow. This drama totally blew me away. It made me cry so hard and made me smile! It’s like a dream because it seems so unlikely for it to happen to a girl but then again, it is a drama so there’s nothing for me to say. The F4 boys had great roles in the story. The story itself was amazing and always twisted my mind because it was getting more and more interesting as I continued each episode. Of course if you’re like me who gets really into the drama and gives emotions as in shocked faces and squeals to certain scenes and parts, you love the drama. The only part I was unhappy about was the character Kim Joon. I just wish that Kim Joon (Song Woo Bin) would have had more appearances or showed his side of the story more though because I didn’t really know who he was in the movie until about the second to last episode where Geum Jan Di is dancing with the boys and talks about what their position in F4 was. Seriously though, the F4 boys were so hot. To choose just one would be a difficult choice in real life.
Yoon Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong) was the character that totally caught my attention when I noticed he played the violin and was the calm and musical student. His character was just so intelligent and I loved that he showed his affection to Geum Jan Di little by little. The background of his life was quite sad and especially of how him and his grandfather didn’t get along until Geum Jan Di brought them together. I loved the part where they were pretending to be a couple and had a fake wedding and did all the activities to try winning the prize. Kim Hyun Joong really did a great job in this drama and I am really looking forward to see him act more! I think the saddest part that dealt with his character was when he was rejected by Geum Jan Di. I loved the ending though when he becomes a doctor and is playing with the kids. Ahh, sorta a dream guy at that perfect moment. Lol.
The story was absolutely incredible. For myself, there were many twists and “aww” moments! It always had me waiting to see what will happen next and all the mysterious stuff in between. What shocked me in the story was the beginning when it turned out that Geum Jan Di’s first friend Oh Min Ji at Shinwha was sabotaging her. It was even more shocking when she revealed that she went through plastic surgery and all the things she did to try getting Jun Pyo (Lee Min Ho) to like her. I have to say though.. I totally cried at the next scene where it shoes Geum Jan Di as an outcast and getting eggs and flour thrown at her and being tripped and hurt. Such a sad scene. The other sad story was Yi Jung’s story. Just wow, his story was so sad as well and I’m so happy it ended happily with a cute ending of him seeing So Eun. I loved the part where she showed him what he missed when he didn’t see his first love on the date she was going to confess her feelings to him and it was so emotional. During their secret trip to the private island was so cute too. Honestly, it would have been so cute if Kim Bum and Kim So Eun were a couple but I actually read that they are close because they went to the same college and studied together. As I said above though, I really wish that Song Woo Bin had more of a story that would have been shown.
I’m glad I watched this because it totally hooked me to continue watching korean dramas! If you have not seen this drama yet, I would definitely recommend it! The drama is 20 episodes long and each episode about an hour and 5 minutes long. Totally worth your time to watch when you’re free and not doing much like over break. Those are the best times to watch. Anyways, if you do start watching, I hope you enjoy it! ^^
