Chapter Ten

“Yah, brat, who the hell are you?” Kai growled at the child with even more irritation flooding to his face.

“Don’t touch Noona! You have to get through me first!” Kisook exclaimed, standing firmly in front of you with outstretched arms.

Kai scoffed before shoving him easily to the ground.

“Yah! Kai!” you exclaimed, immediately crouching down to help Kisook to his feet. “He’s a child!”

“Hanmi do you know how long we’ve been trying to look for you?!” Kai seethed with clenched fists. “And you’re here eating ice cream with some kid?!”

“The others are looking for me?” you asked, pulling out your large doe eyes.

“Did you not just hear what I jus-!”

“Shouldn’t you call them to say that you found me?” you asked innocently, pulling out a clean spoon to take a scoop of your ice cream. “You don’t want them to keep searching for nothing, do you?”

Kai growled angrily at you before whipping out his phone to dial in a number. “YAH! SEHUN! I found your little Princess, we’re at that ice cream parlor we always eat at. Call the others and get here before I squash her like a bug!”

“I hardly doubt you’d be able to do that,” you sniggered under your breath.

Kai shot you a look before shutting his phone.

“You don’t have to protect me Kisook, just finish eating your ice cream, okay?” you smiled, gesturing to the chair he had been sitting on earlier. “Kai, do you want some?” you asked innocently, holding out an extra spoon.

“I’m going to skin you alive,” Kai growled.

“Don’t pay attention to the scary one, Kisookie,” you smiled, patting the now glaring boy’s head. “He won’t hurt you.”

“But Noona, what if he hurts you?” Kisook pouted, giving Kai an untrusting look.

“I’m going to keep you forever!” you squealed, enveloping the boy into a tight hug. “Now eat your ice cream and you can meet your other Hyungs.”

One you had finished your sentence, the group of others appeared in front of you; each of them as out of breath as the next one.

“Blood!” Sehun exclaimed, grabbing your arm in horror.

“Relax Sehunnie, it’s not mine,” you replied, withdrawing your arm from his over concerned grip.

“The cashier told us about how gang’s have been using sneaky tricks with kids. Are you alright?” Baekhyun exclaimed, giving you a scan over to see if you were equipped with any injuries.

“I’m fine, I’m fine,” you smiled, touched at their concern. “I finished them off easily. They were no match. Are you guys okay? Do you want some ice cream?”

“Brat!” Chanyeol exclaimed, finally seeing Kisook besides you. “You brought our Hanmi to danger!” he growled, making his way over to Kisook.

You stuck out a hand protectively to stop Chanyeol from coming any further. “He’s a good kid, don’t scare or hurt him.”

“You sure you’re fine, Mei Mei?” Tao asked, putting his hands on your shoulders.

“Don’t touch my noona!” Kisook exclaimed, slapping Tao’s hands away from you.

“Tao, don’t,” you said warningly when Tao turned to the boy with a glare. You turned to Kisook with a soft expression on your face. “Kisook, they’re my friends. They won’t hurt you.”

“Come on Hanmi, let’s go back, okay? We need to finish buying the clothes, and then we can go home,” Baekhyun smiled, as he took your hand into his.

“A-About that,” you began nervously. “I have a favor to ask of you guys.”

“Anything!” Chanyeol grinned happily.

“Kisook… he doesn’t have a place to go, so can he-?”

“No,” Chanyeol replied plainly, the same grin still etched onto his face. He took your hand, “Time to go home~”

“Channie Oppa, please!” you pleaded, whipping out the “Oppa” to help you out. You stood rooted and your spot and quietly added, “I… I know I’m not in my place to ask, but please, let him stay with me. Just for a week.”

“You’re right, you’re not in your place to ask, so don’t,” Kai replied with a hardened expression.

You smiled sadly at him and the others before bowing 90 degrees. “I’m very thankful for staying at your house the past night, and for the meal this morning.”

“Hanmi, what are you—?”

“This is where we part ways,” you continued, straightening up from your bow. “Thank you for your hospitality.”

“Hanmi! Don’t do this,” Chanyeol groaned, torn between wanting you to stay, and not wanting the kid.

“I can’t leave him,” you replied simply, wrapping an arm around Kisook’s shoulders. “I have enough money for the both of us, so you don’t have to worry. Maybe I’ll see you guys some time in the future.” You gave another bow goodbye.

“Aish! Just bring the kid!” Kai exclaimed finally.

You looked at him in surprise. “I-I wasn’t trying to guilt you into anything, I’m sorry, I really have enough money for the two of us to survive, my Oppas gave—”

“It’s not because of guilt, idiot. I’d be killed by Suho Hyung if we came back without you,” Kai growled. “Bring back the kid, and let Suho kick you out on his own.”

“Don’t worry, Suho won’t kick you out,” Baekhyun assured as he placed a gentle hand on your shoulder.

You chewed on your bottom lip and glanced at Kisook. This time, Kisook turned to the group of you and bowed 90 degrees.

“Noona, thank you for all your help. I’m really sorry for the trouble I’ve caused, so I’ll be leaving,” Kisook smiled, giving you the peace sign as he turned to walk away.

Sehun sighed and grabbed a hold of the back of his hood. “Come on brat, you can come too.”

“Kisook, get back here,” you said firmly, and Kisook immediately scattered back to your side.

“I’ll explain everything to Suho,” you said to the others.

“You guys head back to the bus,” Baekhyun said. “Tao and I will go collect the clothes.”

Your eyes widened in alarm and you rummaged through your bag to pull out a stack of cash.

Baekhyun shook his head at the sight. “Don’t, we have enough of our own.”

“But—”

“Hanmi, I don’t know if the others will let you stay after two weeks. You’re going to need every dollar of that,” Baekhyun finally sighed, explaining his reason for rejecting your cash.

You frowned at his words, not at the fact that they were going to kick you out, but that he was insisting to use his own money. “I… don’t buy a lot, okay? I’m fine with just two outfits.”

Tao scoffed, “Yeah, we’ll be the boss of that.” The two of them disappeared into the crowd of people to return to the earlier clothing store.

“Come on, let’s go to the bus,” Chanyeol said as he lead the lot of you through the shoppers and to the bus station. Kisook stuck to your side like glue, and had a nice handful of your shirt bunched in his hand the entire time. The bus arrived at the station the same time the lot of you did, and you all climbed on despite your protests to wait for Baekhyun and Tao.

“A bus comes like every 10 minutes, okay? Relax,” D.O sighed as he walked in.

“Sehunnie, please?” you called out, tugging on the boy’s shirt with a slight gesture to Kisook when Sehun had scanned his card twice for only you and himself. He heaved a reluctant sigh before scanning his card for a third time.

“Thank you,” you smiled as you boarded the bus with Kisook trailing closely after you.

“You have to sit next to me!” Sehun whined, pulling you down the two of you down to a pair of seats.

“Sehun,” you said with a pointed look when Kisook was standing awkwardly besides you. Sehun let out a loud huff before moving the three of you over to a larger cluster of empty seats.

“I’m having trouble telling who’s the kid and who’s the hyung,” Chanyeol sniggered, looking innocently away when Sehun shot him a strong look.

The lot of you arrived at the empty house, and the boys immediately split up to do their own things. Kai decided to go out, Sehun was forced to have to finish his homework that was due the next day, Chanyeol had to finish a midterm project that he had been slacking on, and D.O simply wanted nothing to do with both you and Kisook.

“Noona, do you think the other Hyungs will let me stay?” Kisook asked with a worried expression. “I don’t want you to get into trouble.”

“Don’t worry Sookie, Noona has everything under control!” you grinned, thrusting a thumb at yourself. “Ah! Why don’t we prepare dinner for when the other guys come back? After a nice meal they’ll be happy, and then I’ll tell them.”

Kisook nodded eagerly, but then frowned at your words. “But Noona, I don’t know how to cook.”

“Leave it me!” you grinned happily. Truth be told you had never stepped into a kitchen your entire life. You rummaged through some cook books that were organized on a shelf and chose a meal that looked both delicious and easy. It wouldn’t be that hard, right?

—————————— -

“WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO MY KITCHEN?”

You spun around abruptly to see an enraged D.O grasping his hair in what looked like agony.

“D-D.O,” you said sheepishly, glancing at the mess scattered all across the room. “I-I’ll clean it all up! I promise!”

“GET OUT OF HERE,” D.O growled, gripping painfully onto a chair to prevent himself from getting any angrier. He had finally gone down stairs with the intent of getting a glass of water, but was instead met with the sight of his now utterly destroyed sanctuary. “What were you trying to do in here? Were you trying to piss me off?”

You quickly shook your head at his words and looked shamefully down at your hands. “I just wanted to make you guys dinner. I-I’m sorry.”

“Sorry isn’t going to cut it,” D.O growled as he eyed some of the vegetables you had cut. “What the heck are these?! Were you trying to make coleslaw?!” he exclaimed, picking up the limp, dead vegetables.

“S-Salad,” you sheepishly admitted.

“Sal…” D.O began to say, stopping himself before he received a heart attack. He glared at Kisook who as at your side, and pointed a finger at him, “You, clean this mess up.” He then turned his finger to you. “And you, come here.”

You slowly walked over to him, worried about what kind of punishment he would give you.

“Show me how you cut those vegetables,” he growled, shoving a knife and half a carrot into your hands.

You stepped in front of the chopping board before carefully beginning to slice the carrot into even pieces. You hadn’t gone past 5 slices before D.O held up a hand for you to stop.

“You’re obviously skilled with a knife, but you have no idea how to use it towards food. You might use those skills towards killing somebody, but not when you’re dealing with a meal,” D.O glared. “Clean this mess up in half an hour. I’m going grocery shopping to get some more food, and you better be done by the time I come back.”

You quickly nodded and grabbed the mop from the corner to start wiping up the spills you had created.

D.O grabbed the keys and was about to leave before he stopped momentarily under the doorway. He glanced briefly over his shoulder at you, “When I come back, I’ll teach you how to make a real meal, so you better be prepared because I don’t play easy when it comes to food.”

You nodded eagerly and gave him a soldier’s solute accompanied with a small wave and smile. “I’ll be waiting for it, then!”

D.O was finally starting to accept you… or at least, he could tolerate you enough to actually be willing to give you lessons.

Maybe things wouldn’t be as bad as you thought they would.
