Chapter Thirteen
The next morning you woke up to find yourself tucked into Suho’s bed. You looked around in confusion, because you could have sworn you had been sobbing into Baekhyun’s chest before you somehow knocked out. You blushed with embarrassment at the memory. Now how were you going to face him when you wasted his time and ruined his shirt?
The door burst open, and Sehun, Luhan, and Kisook skipped happily into the room.
“Come on HanHan get up!” Luhan grinned, pulling the blankets off you with a quick tug.
“Noona!” Kisook cheered happily.
You stared at him with surprise at how friendly and close he was being. Sure, Luhan had never spoke ill of you, but he wasn’t exactly as friendly as Chanyeol or Sehun either.
“There’s breakfast down stairs, so you should come eat quickly, okay?” Luhan smiled, patting you gently on the head. He turned to leave the room with Kisook, but stopped momentarily to glance back at you over his shoulder. “I hope you feel better.”
“He’s become really close with Kisook, somehow,” Sehun explained when he caught your expression of confusion. “Kisook told Luhan all the good stuff you did for him, so Luhan’s looking at you with a much brighter positive light now.”
A small smile formed on your face, and you felt happy at the fact that Luhan now accepted you, even if it did require a bit of Kisook’s help. You remembered that you had cried the entire night, and quickly dashed over to the mirror. Sure enough, your eyes were puffed up and had red rims circled around them.
“I have BB cream that can easily cover that up,” Sehun said, as he watched you press your fingers lightly against the bloated rims of your eyes in the mirror. “I mean, I d-don’t use that stuff normally, so don’t judge me, or anything.”
“What’s BB cream?” you asked with furrowed eyebrows at the unfamiliar name. You pointed up at your puffed up eyes, “Will it do something to hide this?”
Sehun nodded, and you smiled in return. “Then I like it!”
Sehun grinned widely and told you to “Wait here!” before sprinting out of the room to retrieve the said BB cream.
Fast forward half an hour later and the four of you were happily skipping along to school – minus the skipping on Tao’s behalf, and both the “happily” and “skipping” on Kai’s.
“Are you excited?” Sehun grinned as he was happily skipping hand in hand with you to the school.
You tugged on your shorts to make sure they weren’t that short, and then fiddled with the fringe of your hair instead of responding to him.
(How you look for the day, including the hairstyle~)
“You’d look cute no matter what you wear, don’t worry about it, Hanmi!” Sehun laughed when he saw your nervousness.
“You’re cute, Mei Mei,” Tao chimed in as well, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. He eyed you up and down and a frown creased itself onto his face. “Too cute. Sehun, since she’s following you to class today, you better watch out for her. You know how the guys at our school are.”
Sehun scoffed and wrapped his arm around your waist, tightly pulling you against him. “You don’t even have to tell me that, Tao. I’d do it anyways.”
“I’m starting to regret picking such a cute outfit for you. Maybe I should have given you sweats and a sweatshirt,” Tao frowned. “I don’t want people looking at my Mei Mei.”
“Your Mei Mei? Your? I don’t think so, Panda Eyes, if anything, Hanmi’s mine!”
Despite the two’s stupid bickering, you couldn’t help but internally smile. The two of them were really beginning to warm up to you. You glanced over at Kai who didn’t even try to hide the strong glare of detest he was shooting consistently your way and cowered under the look before sharply turning to continue staring ahead. Well, you couldn’t make everybody like you.
Once the four of you set foot onto the school’s campus, whispers immediately began to spread, and you had to admit that you felt pretty uneasy about them. Sehun noticed your discomfort and gave your hand a small squeeze of reassurance.
“Sehun, there’s a lot of people here,” you murmured nervously, clenching onto the sleeve of his uniform as you stepped closer to him.
“It’s a school, Hanmi,” Sehun laughed, patting you gently on the head. “After today, you’ll get used to it, so don’t worry.”
Tao continued to follow both you and Sehun, but Kai had already departed to a group of guys that you assumed to be his friends.
“By the way, Mei Mei, do you have a phone?” Tao asked with a curious expression.
You shook your head in response. “I never needed one.”
Sehun happily clasped his hands together at your words. “Let’s go get one today after school then, okay? You need a way to stay in contact with us, or we’ll worry.”
You nodded in return, but your eyes had caught sight to the scene of one of the guys putting Kai in a headlock. Your eyes widened in surprise, and you were by their side within the blink of an eye. You ripped the guy off Kai and shoved him roughly onto the ground. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
The guy looked back at you in surprise first, but then it slowly turned into an expression of amusement.
A hand landed on your shoulder and whipped you around. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Kai exclaimed with an angry expression on his face.
“B-But he was hurting you,” you said, looking down at the fallen guy with a confused expression. Did Kai like the fact that the boy had been hurting him?
“They were being playful, Hanmi,” Sehun explained as he and Tao caught up to you. “That’s Kai’s friend, Jinhyuk.”
Your eyes widened in realization, and you immediately turned to bow 90 degrees at the boy Kai was helping up. “I’m sorry, I thought you were hurting him!”
Jinhyuk laughed and accepted your apology with a smile, but Kai simply glared angrily at you. “Don’t you dare pull anything like that again,” he snarled before making his way into the school building.
Jinhyuk gave you an apologetic smile and a brief wave before turning to follow Kai into the building.
“Ignore Kai, Hanmi,” Sehun scoffed. “He’s being a bastard right now.”
“Yeah, come on Mei Mei, let’s go inside or you and Sehun are going to be late!” Tao smiled as he took your hand to lead you into the building.
The situation with Kai immediately erased from your mind once you caught sight of the inside of the building and looked on with awe. You had seen how schools’ exteriors looked from brief glances while you were on missions, but you had never actually been inside one.
You jumped in surprise when the sound of a shrill bell broke through the chattering halls, and watched in awe on how that simple sound could make the students scatter like bugs.
“It’s time to go to class, Hanmi,” Sehun chuckled as he took your hand to lead you to his first class of the day.
“I’ll meet with you later okay, Hanmi? We have to eat lunch together,” Tao pouted before waving goodbye to go to his respective class.
“Ah, Sehun,” the teacher smile when Sehun walked into the room with me in tow. All the students were already seated in their seats and were staring at you with a look of surprise.
“This must be Hanmi, correct?” the teacher smiled when she turned to you. “I’m Mrs. Shim.”
You bowed your respects and introduced yourself with a smile. “Hello, I’m Bak Hanmi.”
“Class, Hanmi will be spending the day with us as Sehun’s tag-a-long, so please treat her as one of your own,” Mrs. Shim announced as she turned to the class.
You gave an uneasy smile to the awestruck faces staring back at you, and felt relieved when Sehun took a hold of your hand to bring you to where the two of you would be sitting. As you sat down next to him in the back row, you caught whispers from Sehun’s classmates with your delicate hearing.
“Sehun Oppa has such a pretty girlfriend… how can we compete with that?”
“Holy shit, do you think Sehun could get me hooked up with her.”
“Unni is so pretty, look at how clear her skin is! You think she’ll tell me how she manages to keep it that way?”
You chuckled quietly at the last statement. Clear skin? You had Lay to thank for that. Sehun glanced at you curiously because of your silent chuckle, but you simply waved him off.
School, you soon realized, was absolutely boring. All the stuff they were teaching Sehun’s class were things you had learned years ago! It was absolutely ridiculous how slow the progress of the class was, and a little bit of you actually pitied Sehun and the others.
“Hanmi-ah? Would you like to participate in the class, since you must be bored by now?” Mrs. Shim called out. “Do you think you can answer this question? The rest of the class seems to be having quite a problem.”
You ripped your gaze away from the picture you had been doodling and glanced up at the problem she was pointing to.
“Would you like me to give you an easier one?” Mrs. Shim asked, beginning to erase the board.
“No, it’s fine,” you replied, standing up from your seat before making your way over to the front of the class. You snapped off the cap of the marker and began to solve the question at hand. Once you were finished, you handed back the marker before returning to your desk to resume being bored.
“That’s right!” Mrs. Shim exclaimed with a wide smile on her face. “You must be a star student at your own school.”
“I don’t go to school,” you replied resisting the temptation to return to your doodling because it would be rude.
Mrs. Shim’s eyes widened in surprise. “Are you home schooled?”
Your mind wandered back to when your Oppas would force you to study hundreds of books inside the small confines of your room. “Something like that.”
The topic was then dropped, and you happily returned to your doodle.
A piece of paper was thrown at you, and you turned with a scowl at Sehun to see him grinning with a peace sign before signaling you to open it.
“Is that supposed to be EXO?”
You glanced down at your doodle of the 12 member group, and shrugged your shoulders in response. “Yah, pay attention,” you whispered quietly. You peeked over at the paper he had been supposedly taking notes on. “You need it.”
The bell rang, and you once again jumped sharply at the sound.
Sehun chuckled at your cuteness before informing you that it meant it was time for break. You nodded in relief, and stretched out your body – tired for having to sit there for so long.
Half of the class immediately approached both Sehun and your desks and started bombarding the two of you with questions. You jumped back in surprise, and eyed Sehun warily. He didn’t inform you that this was one of the things you’d have to do.
“I’m going to go to the bathroom,” you told him as you got up from your seat, wanting desperately to get away from Sehun’s classmates that were much too close for comfort.
“Do you need me to come with you?” Sehun asked, wanting to get away from the prying eyes as well.
“Nah, I remember where it is since we passed by it,” you replied, slipping away from the students before making your way down to the bathroom. Along the way, you heard a couple of yelps followed by a few kicks and punches. You frowned at the sound and took a detour from the bathroom to head to where the noise was coming from.
You finally arrived at a hallway to be met with the sight of a bunch of students ganging up on one girl in particular.
“Yah,” you called out, leaning coolly against the side of a locker. “What are you girls doing?”
“Who the hell do—” the leader began to spit out as she turned to face you. She stopped in the middle of her sentence and her angry expression turned into a smug one. You almost scoffed at how shallow this whole school was. If this was actually how all schools were, you were somewhat happy to have gotten to skip it. “Do you want to get a kick at her too?”
You smirked as you glanced down at the girl they had been bullying. “So, what’d she to do you guys?”
“This little slut was hitting on my boyfriend,” the leader hissed, yanking the girl up by her hair.
“Oh? So you’re giving her a few punches in return?” you asked with a raised eyebrow. You scanned the other girls that were a part of the assault. “What are they for?”
“These are all the other girls whose boyfriend’s this slut is trying to sleep around with,” the leader growled, giving a hard kick at the girl below them.
You raised an eyebrow as you scanned the crowd of 10 or so girls before glancing back down the girl. “Wow, you’ve been making your way around, haven’t you?”
“It’s their fault that they don’t fulfill their boyfriends’ wishes,” the girl huffed, earning herself another slap on the face.
“Wow… you have quite a mouth, don’t you?” you laughed. “You don’t know when you’re in an unfavorable situation?” You eyed the leader with a smirk. “Can I have a go at her too?”
The leader grinned at your words, and tossed the girl to your feet. “Have all the fun you want.”
You grabbed the collar of the girl before shoving her against the wall. You pulled your fist back, and shot it forward with a sickening crack.
The other girls dropped the jaws, and unconsciously took a step back.
“Y-You missed,” the leader stammered.
You pulled back your bloody fist and smugly glanced at the cracks you had made into the wall. “Wow… I guess I’m pretty strong, huh?” You turned your head back to the group of girls and gave a smirk, “So you guys better beat it before I use this fist on you.”
Surprise and terror immediately crossed all their faces, and they fled without a second of hesitation.
“Smart choice!” you called out after them before turning to the girl in front of you. She had dropped to the ground with surprise and fright, just thinking about what would have happened if you hadn’t punched the wall.
“What’s your name?” you asked, crouching down to level up with her.
“M-Mihyun,” she stammered in return, not daring to meet your eyes. “Park Mihyun.”
“Yah, Mihyun, why are you messing around with all their boyfriends?” you asked with a raised eyebrow. “You should know better than to do that, especially if they’re going to come and gang up on you like that.”
“I… I d-don’t know, it’s f-fun, I guess?” she asked, staring straight into the ground.
You laughed. “Fun? You have a wicked sense of fun, don’t you?” You stood back up on your feet and examined your bloodied knuckles. “Yah, Mihyun, would it be fun if instead of the wall I had hit your face? Because if it was my boyfriend that you were trying to steal it, that would have definitely been the case.”
When you earned no reply from her, you shrugged and began to walk away. “Go get yourself fixed up at the nurse’s, and if I find a group of girls bullying you again because you messed with their boyfriends, I’m not going to miss next time,” you called over your shoulder before turning the corner to find the goddamn bathroom like you had been trying to in the first place.
“That was pretty bad ass.”
