Friend Zoned (Chapter 1) [Beast Fan Fiction]

I sat quietly waiting for my next class to begin. It was a surprisingly long hour, considering it was my only hour free today with 5 classes. I should be enjoying it, but I had eaten my lunch already and now had half an hour left until class started. I made my schedule this way, so I didn’t have the right to complain, but I did anyway. My friend, Yoseob looked over at me and smiled, listening to my usual complaining of my long day of classes with wide and shiny eyes. After my rant, he spoke.

“I’m tired of school as well. English studies is very tiring.”

I smiled and looked into my friend’s eyes. “I can help you if you want.”

Yoseob shook his head. “It’s alright, I can do it.”

“Okay.” I sighed.

I looked down at my phone in deep thought. All I could think of lately when I was around Yoseob was his obvious crush on me. We’d met through my ex, Hyunseung, two years ago and after a year of Hyunseung and my breakup, I started to see that Yoseob seemed to like me. The shine in his eyes dimmed now whenever I mentioned my crush, Kikwang. He also liked to meet up with me during any break we had together, though this semester it was difficult because our schedules were so different. I felt so bad.

“What time is it?” Yoseob asked me suddenly, breaking my train of though.

“We have 12 minutes till class.” I told him, answering his question in a different way than he’s asked. Sometimes I did that.

“Okay, well then I’m going to head to class now.” Yoseob said, standing up. “I have a test now. Will you wish me luck?”

“Of course.” I smiled. “Good luck, dear friend.”

Yoseob’s smile wavered at the sound of the word “friend” and so I gave him a reassuring face, not wanting to lead him on, nor give him too much hope being that I really liked Kikwang. It didn’t help him. He gave me a weak smile and turned away to head out.

After this, I noticed I had a text. “Oh, Kikwang texted me?”

I felt my heart warm with happiness. Suddenly I heard a slam and I looked up to only see the back of Yoseob’s head as he sped-walked in the opposite direction of his class. He must’ve heard.

I sighed and walked to class, slowly, thinking of ways to make Yoseob cheery again when I felt an arm grab my shoulder. I turned to see another guy friend that liked me, Dongwoon. My older brother Junhyung and their friend Doojun were just behind him.

“How you been?” Dongwoon asked me with a smile.

“I’m okay. You?”

“Good, good…” he said awkwardly. “Hey… do you wanna go on a date by chance?”

“I can’t. I’m sorry.” I told him.

“Why not?”

“Hey.” Junhyung cut in. “She said she can’t. Can you please leave my little sister alone?”

Dongwoon glared at my brother. “Of course. See you around, Eunyoung.”

“Bye.” I said, awkwardly and running off.

When I sat down in class, I suddenly remembered I’d gotten a text from Kikwang. I opened my phone and read it. I’m listening to the song you told me to. I like it a lot.

The song I’d told him to listen to was a song that made me think of him. It perfectly described my feelings for him. It made me so happy inside that he liked it. I couldn’t tell him that though, so I instead I told him simply that I was glad he liked it. After I replied to his text, I turned my phone off and waited for the professor to begin his lecture.
